What is it?
It consists of achieving optimal maturation of several eggs through the use of fertility medications.
This treatment is indicated in those women who present ovulation disorders, alterations that are closely related to menstrual disorders such as irregular cycles or amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).
Treatment
The treatment consists of three phases:
- Ovum maturation
- Ovulation
- Endometrium preparation
Adequate follicular monitoring is important to achieve good ovulation.
Transvaginal ultrasound
It is used to observe the ovaries and check the size and growth rate of the follicles. The follicles increase in size as they mature. They are considered mature (ready to ovulate) when their diameter reaches at least 18-20 millimeters.

Natural cycle vs. Ovarian stimulation
If the patient does not have ovulation problems, ovarian stimulation treatment is not required, only monitoring the growth of the egg, this being a recommendation for non-infertile couples.
Ovarian stimulation
In most cases, ovarian stimulation with injected or oral medication is recommended to guarantee maturation and ovulation, optimizing the chances of pregnancy.
During the ovarian stimulation (approximately 10 days), ultrasound and hormonal controls are performed to measure the ovarian response.
Ovulation is monitored with the following tests:
- Vaginal ultrasound: It is used to observe the ovaries and check the size and growth rate of the follicle.
- Blood test: It is used to know the level of estrogen (estradiol), and correlate the number of maturing eggs. An average of 3 to 4 ultrasound and blood checks are usually performed per cycle.
- Semen sample: The indications for collecting the sample are: the semen sample is generally produced by masturbation in the clinic and sexual abstinence for 3-5 days.
- After insemination: The next day you can restart your normal life, avoiding great efforts, following the instructions of our specialists regarding the dates of sexual relations as well as the date on which the pregnancy test will be indicated.
